Root canal therapy treats infection or damage inside a tooth. When the pulp — the soft tissue at the center of a tooth — becomes inflamed or infected, the result is severe pain, swelling, and risk to the tooth itself. A root canal removes the damaged tissue, cleans and seals the inside of the tooth, and saves it from extraction.
The reputation root canals have for being painful is decades out of date. Modern techniques, anesthesia, and instruments mean most patients say the procedure feels similar to a routine filling. The pain that brings you in is gone within days.

Diagnosis
We confirm the diagnosis with X-rays and tests, explain what's happening inside the tooth, and discuss treatment options including realistic alternatives.

Numbing
Local anesthetic fully numbs the area before any treatment begins. We won't start until you're comfortable.

Cleaning the canals
A small opening is made in the tooth. The infected pulp is removed, and the canals are cleaned and shaped with fine instruments.

Sealing
The cleaned canals are filled and sealed with a biocompatible material to prevent re-infection.

Crown or restoration
Most root-canaled teeth need a crown afterward to protect them from fracture. We typically schedule the crown 2–4 weeks later.
Common questions about root canal therapy.
Will the root canal hurt?
The procedure itself shouldn't hurt — it's done under full anesthesia. Most patients say the worst pain is what brought them in, and it's gone within a day or two.
How long does a root canal last?
A root canal with a proper crown can last decades — often the lifetime of the tooth. Success rates are 90%+.
Do I need a crown afterward?
Almost always for back teeth. The crown protects the now-hollow tooth from fracture. Front teeth sometimes don't need a crown depending on the case.
Should I just pull the tooth instead?
Saving a natural tooth is almost always preferable. Extractions create their own problems — bone loss, shifting teeth, and the eventual need for an implant or bridge.
How much does a root canal cost?
Most insurance plans cover a portion. We provide transparent estimates after diagnosis and offer financing for out-of-pocket costs.
